This painting depicts the dancing and rehearsal scenes of the female entertainers at the imperial court of the Southern Song dynasty. In the painting, the female entertainers, old musician and young maid stand in the courtyard holding a variety of musical instruments. They are all dressed in typical clothing of the Southern Song, which vividly reflects the socio-cultural life of the period. Paintings themed with singing and dancing female entertainers are rarely seen in the figure paintings of the Southern Song dynasty. This work enjoys a very high historical and artistic value.
