Description

Zhang Wo (?-ca. 1356), is also known by his zi (designated name) Shuhou and his hao (literary name) Zhenqisheng. Though a native of Huainan, he resided in Hangzhou. The artist was especially good at drawing figures. This work was a copy after a work by a Northern-song artist named Li Gonglin, to embody Nine Songs (in pinyin, jiu ge) from Elegies of Chu (in pinyin, chu ci). There is a postscript written by Wu Rui (1298-1355) after each picture, dated the 6th year of Zhizheng reign (1346).
