Description

Zhu Da (1626-1705) is also known by his zi (designated name) Xuege and his hao (literary name) Bada Shanren. A native of Nanchang, Zhu Da, who was one of the descendants of Prince Ning of the Ming dynasty, became a Buddhist monk. Zhu Da’s paintings were marked by bold and simple strokes creating a powerful effect. This scroll was completed in the thirtieth year of the Kangxi reign (1691) when Zhu Da was sixty-six years old.
