Zheng Xie (1693-1765) is also known by his zi (designated name) Kerou and his hao (literary names) Banqiao. A native of Xinghua (nowadays Taizhou, Jiangsu province), Zheng Xie was renowned for paintings of orchid and bamboo and was one of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou". This xieyi (freehand) ink painting depicts bamboo, rock and orchid with strong and smooth brushstrokes. The artist inscribed the colophon on the painting. This work was painted in the 29th year (1764) of the Qianlong reign when the artist was 72.
