Wu Hufan (1894-1968), originally named Yiyan, later changed his name to Qian, also known as Chouyi, and his hao (literary name) Qian'an. Wu signed his painting and calligraphy with Hufan. A native of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, he later lived in Shanghai. Wu Hufan was the grandson of Wu Dacheng, an eminent collector and connoisseur of art. He excelled in landscape painting. Wu Daiqiu, Wu Zishen, Feng Chaoran, and Wu Hufan were collectively called "Three Wu and One Feng". This scroll, painted in 1944 when the artist was 51, is a representative work among his blue-and-green landscape paintings.
