Liu Haisu (1896-1994), originally named Pan, was also known by his zi (designated name) Jifang and hao (literary name) Haiweng. A native of Changzhou, Jiangsu province, he was a painter, skilled in landscape and flower-and-bird genres, and a noted art educator. This blue-and-green style painting employed bold use of colours and vigorous brushstrokes. The artist painted this painting at the age of 87 in 1978.
