Description

The Five Elders of Suiyang depicts five Northern Song renowned officials, including Zhu Guan. These five officials finally all retired to Suiyang (in present-day Shangqiu, Henan province) and gained renown for their poetic gatherings. By the Yuan dynasty, Zhu Derun, a descendant of Zhu Guan, collected inscriptions for the album. Wu Fusun (1280-1348), also known by his zi (designated name) Zishan, a native of Qiantang (in present-day Hangzhou, Zhejiang province), was a skilled calligrapher who served as Shanghai County's Assistant Magistrate in his later years, earning local admiration for his benevolent governance. The original painting is now overseas; this album features a Ming dynasty reproduction by You Qiu.
