Description

Ke Jiusi (1290-1343), also known by his zi (designated name) Jingzhong and hao (literary names) Danqiusheng and Feihuan Daozhe, was a native of Xianju (in present-day Taizhou, Zhejiang province). Renowned for his connoisseurship, he was appointed "Master of Calligraphy and Painting Authentication at the Kuizhang Pavilion" by Emperor Wenzong of Yuan, overseeing the imperial art collection. In his later years he resided in Wuzhong and frequently visited Songjiang (in present-day Shanghai), communicating with Jiangnan elites like Gu Ying, Ni Zan, Cao Zhibai, and Yang Weizhen about art and poetry. A master of bamboo painting in the Wen Tong tradition, he painted this work with calligraphic brushwork for bamboo. This work also shows the influence from Zhao Mengfu and Li Kan.
