Description

Xu Jie (1503-1583), also known by his zi (designated name) Zisheng and hao (literary name) Shaohu, was a native of Huating (in present-day Songjiang, Shanghai). He rose to become the head of the Grand Secretariat. Lu Shen (1477-1544), also known by his zi Ziyuan and hao Yanshan, was a native of Shanghai who served as Administration Commissioner of Sichuan. Modern Shanghai's Lujiazui district derives its name from Lu Shen's residence and family cemetery. Renowned for poetry and calligraphy, Lu was a key figure of mid-Ming Songjiang calligraphic circles. This letter features poems written by various scholars for Cai Ang (1481-1540, hao Hejiang) of Jiading (in present-day Shanghai).
