Wang Hongxu (1645-1723), also known by his zi (designated name) Jiyou and hao (literary name) Yanzhai, was a native of Zhangyan Town in Huating county (in present-day Jinshan, Shanghai). Rising to Minister of Revenue, he served as chief editor of the History of Ming and co-compiled the Peiwen Yunfu (a rhyme dictionary). He learned his calligraphy style from Dong Qichang and Mi Fu.
