Description

Wang Hongxu (1645-1723), also known by his zi (designated name) Jiyou and hao (literary name) Yanzhai, was a native of Zhangyan Town in Huating county (in present-day Jinshan, Shanghai). Rising to Minister of Revenue, he served as chief editor of the History of Ming and co-compiled the Peiwen Yunfu (a rhyme dictionary). He learned his calligraphy style from Dong Qichang and Mi Fu. He was a great collector of the early Qing dynasty, housing his treasures in his Hengyun Mountain Villa. He once held masterworks including Yan Zhenqing's Draft Eulogy for Nephew in running script, Zhao Mengfu's Record of Zhizhai in running script, Huang Gongwang's painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains handscroll, and Dong Qichang's painting Misty River and Layered Peaks.
