Wang Yuanqi (1642-1715), also known by his zi (designated name) Maojing and hao (literary name) Lutai, was a native of Taicang (present-day in Jiangsu province) and one of the "Four Wangs of Early Qing". The "Dansi" mentioned in the manuscript refers to Wang Jingming (1668-1721) from Jiading (in present-day Shanghai). During the 46th year (1707) of the Kangxi reign, Wang Jingming gained imperial favor by presenting poetry and paintings during the emperor's tour in the southern China, subsequently serving at Changchun Garden. Along with Jin Yongxi, Cao Peiyuan, and Li Weixian, he was known as one of Wang Yuanqi's "Four Major Disciples", Wang Jingming was particularly renowned as Wang Yuanqi's primary surrogate painter.
