Description

Lu Yanshao (1909-1993), originally named Tongzu and also known by his zi (designated name) Wanruo, was a native of Nanxiang town in Jiading county (in present-day Shanghai). He began his training in Chinese painting at Wuxi Art College in his youth. Serving as a painter at the Shanghai Chinese Painting Institute and council member of the Shanghai Artists Association, Lu created the renowned series "Waters of the Steep Three Gorges", developing the "Lu's cloud-water technique". This work is an exemplary masterpiece of that series.
