Zhou Bichu (1903-1995), a native of Pinghe in Fujian, was one of China's pioneering oil painters. In the 1920s, he studied in Paris under the renowned Impressionist Ernest Laurent alongside classmates such as Xu Beihong, Lin Fengmian, and Yan Wenliang. After returning to China, he taught at the Shanghai Art Academy and became a painter at the Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute. This work depicts the Yingxiong Mountain of his hometown, combining Impressionist color and brushwork with the spirit of Chinese painting traditions, achieving a profound and contemplative harmony.
