Buddha's Head

Description

This work representing a Buddha's head came from a human-sized statue standing against the north wall of Fengxian Temple (the Ancestor Worshiping Cave) in Longmen Grottoes. Standing Buddha statues of such height were probably carved under the orders of Emperor Xuanzong or commissioned by his cronies to make merits for the Emperor.
