Description

The dish is adorned with the coat of arms of the British East India Company. Established in 1600, the British East India Company received a royal charter from the Queen to trade in India. In 1698, Parliament created a parallel company, and in 1702, the two merged. By the 18th century, the British East India Company had become the dominant force in China-Europe trade. This dish is likely to be part of a complete set commissioned by the British East India Company from China.
