Zhou Chen (ca. 1450-after 1535), also known by his zi (designated name) Shunqing and hao (literary name) Dongcun, was native to Wu county (nowadays Suzhou, Jiangsu province). Zhou Chen was skilled in landscape and figure paintings with meticulous strokes. In this painting, the foreground depicts high trees by rocks, as the cottage welcomes the guests. In the distance, the waterfall cascades down the towering mountains surrounded by misty vast waters. The painting style, characterised by dense and firm brushstrokes, resembles that of Li Tang.
