Description

Yao Shou (1422-1495), also known by his zi (designated name) Gongshou and his hao (literary names) Gu'an, Danqiuzi, and Yundong Yishi, was a native of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province. Renowned for his landscape paintings, his brushstrokes display varied tonalities of ink. He was also skilled in depicting bamboo and rocks with round brushstrokes similar to those of Wu Zhen. This album depicts small scenes of landscapes and figures, featuring spaciousness and clarity rendered with steady and composed brushstrokes. This album was painted in the seventh year (1494) of the Hongzhi reign, when the artist was 73.
