Luo Zhenyu (1866-1940), a native of Shangyu in Zhejiang, is also known by his zi (designated name) Shuyan and hao (literary name) Xuetang and later hao Zhensong Laoren. He was an archaeologist, epigrapher, and scholar on ancient Chinese characters. Luo was adept in seal script and had a profound knowledge of oracle bones and ancient bronze inscriptions. This work copies the inscription on the bronze vessel Xiao Chen Zhai Gui (now in the collection of the National Museum of China) with well-balanced structures and robust brushstrokes.
