Yu Youren (1879-1964), is also known by his zi (designated name) Boxun and hao (literary name) Taipin Laoren, native to Sanyuan, Shaanxi province. He was one of the founders of modern Chinese higher education. Yu was adept in regular, running, and cursive scripts, advocating the standardization of cursive script. This work is accomplished with strong and robust brushstrokes, inspired by the style of Wei dynasty steles. He wrote this work at the age of 72 in 1950.
