Sun Zuo (1320 – after 1404), also known by his zi (designated name) Daya and his hao (literary name) Dongjiazi, was native to Jiangyin. He was a descendent of Sun Kuang, the fourth brother of Sun Quan (182-252). He was the deputy director of Guozijian (governmental higher education institution) at the beginning of the Ming dynasty. A friend of Tao Zongyi and Song Lian and a renowned writer, he wrote Cangluo Ji. His calligraphy is extremely rare. Sun wrote this poem for Xu Ji's study with upright structured characters and firm brushstrokes.
