A shi poem In Memory of Fu Baoshi, running script, hanging scroll

Artist: Zhao Puchu

Date: Modern

Material: Ink on paper

Description

Zhao Puchu composed this poem in memory of Fu Baoshi following his death. Zhao and Fu first met during their trip to Mount Emei in 1960. In 1962, they collaborated in Yangzhou, this time on the Buddhist Exchange Agreement between China and Japan. In this poem, Zhao recalls that Fu 'painted in Mount Emei' and their 'collaboration in drafting an agreement dedicated to the blind master Jianzhen on a moonlit night in Yangzhou'. This rewritten work was created in 1985 to celebrate the inauguration of the Fu Baoshi Memorial in Nanjing. In the colophon, Zhao recounted how he drafted the Agreement in Yangzhou, which was then copied out by Fu. Created by Zhao at the age of seventy-nine, this piece features good brushwork strength and a refreshing, flowing style.
