Yu Youren was a veteran revolutionary, as well as a renowned calligrapher and poet. In June 1983, the 77-year-old Zhao Puchu composed this shi poem for the book Poetry by Yu Youren, which was to be published by the Hunan People's Publishing House in September 1984. In this poem, Zhao lavishes praise on Yu Youren for his revolutionary achievements, patriotism and calligraphic accomplishments. Traces of revisions on this manuscript reveal Zhao's great respect for Yu Youren, as well as his conscientious scholarship.
