This handscroll contains two ci poems (Tunes: Full Courtyard Fragrance and Silk-Washing Stream), both of which were composed by Qin Guan, a Northern Song poet. Zhao Puchu's calligraphy interprets the poems through yi, the artistic expression of individuality and emotion. His calligraphy is clearly influenced by two Northern Song calligraphers, Mi Fu and Su Shi, for its wide-construction characters, angled strokes to create an upright visual effect, well-designed, compact arrangement of space, and moist, fleshy brushwork. These features convey the elegant, pure mood of literati calligraphy. Zhao completed the work in 1975 at the age of sixty-nine.
