At the invitation of the Venerable Yamada Etai, the Head of the Tendai Sect in Japan, Zhao Puchu led a delegation of the monks from Mount Tiantai and Mount Wutai on a visit to Japan from 1st to 27th August 1987. During this visit, he composed impromptu poems wherever he went, which were later mounted into an album entitled Seventy-Nine Poems about the Visit to Japan. The leaves on display are part of his revised manuscripts, completed when he was eighty-one.
