This calligraphic work, the Avalokiteśvara gāthā, is an excerpt from the Samantamukha chapter of The Lotus Sutra. It was handwritten by Zhao Puchu as a gift for a friend. This friend is a devotee of Avalokiteśvara and has dedicated his life to healing people. As his conduct resonated with the Bodhisattva's compassion, Zhao praised him for his 'boundless beneficence'. The piece features fleshy, disciplined brushwork in a dignified yet graceful style. It incorporates elements from the works of Zhao Mengfu, Li Yong, and Su Shi.
