Zhao Puchu was a senior philanthropist who advocated the 'Water-drop Spirit' and altruistic reciprocation throughout his life. Composed by Zhao in June 1965, this ci poem records his reflections upon reading Lei Feng's Diary. The work is a draft of the final version that was presented to a friend. Although it is undated, its dynamic and fleshy brushwork betrays the time of creation as probably around 1977, when Zhao was seventy-one.
