Two five-character sentences, cursive script, hanging scroll

Artist: Zhao Puchu

Date: Modern

Material: Ink on paper

Description

These two sentences are an excerpt from the end of A Second Visit to the Jinggang Mountains (Tune: Water Melody), a ci poem composed by Mao Zedong. They have now become a maxim that extols sublime heroism and lofty aspirations. Zhao Puchu often wrote these two sentences to encourage others. This cursive-script work features hasty, unrestrained brushwork in a dynamic flow, fully embodying the essence of 'single-stroke calligraphy', a writing technique invented by the ancient calligraphy master Wang Xianzhi.
