In 1998, when China was hit by catastrophic floods, the 92-year-old Zhao Puchu wrote this ci poem to encourage the Chinese people to 'work shoulder to shoulder in disaster relief and unite to secure a victory'. He subsequently donated his personal savings and attended a fundraising event featuring calligraphy and paintings by Chinese masters, urging Chinese Buddhist communities to play an active role in disaster relief efforts. This calligraphic work features restrained, rounded brushwork that conveys a sense of dignified composure.
