A shi poem titled A Retrospect of My Life at the Age of Ninety, running script, mounted sheet

Artist: Zhao Puchu

Date: Modern

Material: Ink on paper

Description

Zhao Puchu wrote this work in 1996, when he was ninety years old. In it, he recalls his three greatest contributions to China: 'helping to rally the New Fourth Army', 'correcting misled Western views', and 'fostering friendship with Japan through a touring exhibition of the statue of Jianzhen (aka. the Blind Saint) in China'. The poem also reveals his pursuit of daily improvement, even at the age of ninety, and his great daring despite the crash of thunder. The entire calligraphic piece showcases variegated brushwork executed with a flowing and uninterrupted momentum.
