Zheng Xie (1693-1765) is also known by his zi (designated name) Kerou and his hao (literary names) Banqiao, Hongxue Shanqiao. A native of Xinghua in Jiangsu, Zheng Xie was renowned for paintings of orchid and bamboo and was one of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou". The painting depicts several ink orchids, with leaves rendered in dark ink and flower stems executed in lighter brushwork.
