The Digital Gallery, newly conceived for the Shanghai Museum East, is an innovative space dedicated to active engagement, interaction, and immersive experience. Designed to deepen visitors' understanding of China's rich cultural heritage, the Gallery encourages close engagement with works of art while illuminating the processes through which civilization is formed, sustained, and transmitted across generations.

Its inaugural exhibition, Poetic Jiangnan, draws upon two decades of new scholarly research in the field of classical Chinese painting. Drawing upon recent scholarship, the exhibition explores paintings in the Museum's collection from the Five Dynasties through the Qing dynasty, placing them within their artistic and historical contexts. Presented in a fully digital, immersive environment, it reimagines the experience of ancient Chinese painting beyond the limits of the traditional object-based display. Through innovative digital interpretation, the exhibition traces the evolving styles of Jiangnan landscape painting across the centuries, revealing both continuity and transformation within the tradition.
