Yang Weizhen (1297-1370), also known by his zi (designated name) Lianfu and his hao (literary name) Tieya, was native to Zhuji (nowadays Shaoxing, Zhejiang province). As a leader of the poem writing in Jiangnan at the end of the Yuan dynasty, he developed his own literary style called "Tieya style". Especially adept in running-cursive script, he combined the smooth and elegant style of Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi and the firm and rigorous style of Ouyang Xun, which makes his brushstrokes grand and unique. He dwelled in Songjing (nowadays in Shanghai) to avoid the chaos at the end of the Yuan dynasty. He often organized literati gathering, in which they composed poems and did paintings for entertaining. His friends and students scattered all over Jiangnan.
