Xugu (1823-1896), originally named Zhu Huairen, was a monk painter. A native of She county in Anhui province, he moved to Guangling (nowadays Yangzhou, Jiangsu province) and travelled frequently among Shanghai, Yanghzou, and Suzhou. This album includes works depicting flowers, birds, and fish. The realistic approach, elegant brushstrokes, and fresh colours contribute to the album's unique charm. This album is painted in the 21st year (1895) of the Guangxu reign when the artist was 73.
