Dong Yuan (?-962), alternatively named Yuan with a different character, was also known by his zi (designated name) Shuda. He was a native of Zhongling (present-day Jinxian, Jiangxi province). He was excelled in depicting the sceneries of Jiangnan (the southern regions of the lower reach of the Yangtze River). This scroll bears no signature from the artist. It depicts overlapping mountains and rivers, with scattered plantation, using dense and varied texture strokes. On the back of the scroll is an inscription by Dong Qichang, attributing the work to Dong Yuan. There are also inscriptions by Fang Shishu, Xu Weiren, Dai Xi, and others, along with a partial "Feng" seal from Jia Sidao.
