Wang Meng (1308-1385), also known by his zi (designated name) Shuming and his hao (literary name) Huanghe Shanqiao, was native to Wuxing (nowadays Huzhou, Zhejiang province). He was one of the "Four Masters of the Yuan". This artist depicted the scene of Bianshan Mountains in Wuxing with the gaoyuan (up-looking perspective) composition. This painting with a dense composition illustrates the artist's mastery of brush painting techniques and subtle use of ink in varied shades. This scroll was painted in the 26th year (1366) of the Zhizheng era, when the artist was 59.
