Description

Qiu Ying (ca. 1498-1552) is also known by his zi (designated name) Shifu and his hao (literary name) Shizhou. A native of Taicang, Jiangsu province, Qiu Ying was a student of Zhou Chen. He was skilled in imitating ancient paintings, and was an accomplished painter of landscapes, figures, architecture, birds, and animals. He was especially adept in painting ladies. Some of his landscape paintings also adopt a simple style. This painting depicts the scene in a detailed manner, with the signature "Qiu Ying Zhi (made by Qiu Ying)" and the seals of "Shifu" and "Qiu Ying".
