Description

Mi Fu (1051-1107) was also known by his zi (designated name) Yuanzhang and hao (literary name) Haiyue Waishi. His ancestral home was in Taiyuan in the Shanxi province. Later, his family settled in Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province. He was one of the "Four Calligraphy Masters of the Song". Mi Fu was the first mayor of Qinglong town in Huating (present-day Qingpu district, Shanghai) after this position was set up. This was originally mounted together with Su Shi's A Letter to Liu Xi as part of Four Works by Su Shi and Mi Fu. Daozu refers to Xue Shaopeng, a calligrapher who enjoyed equal popularity with Mi Fu, as they were frequently mentioned together as "Mi and Xue".
