Description

Gu Yuan (1321-1382), also known by his zi (designated name) Zhongyuan and his hao (literary names) Yunwu or Yushan Yiren, was native to Kunshan, Jiangsu province. The Gu family was a gentry in Kunshan. He was the nephew of Gu Ying (1310-1369). Gu Yuan was skilled in landscape painting. This painting depicts Gu Yuan and his friends' trip to Mountain Dan. This work was painted in the fourth year (1371) of the Hongwu reign when the artist was 51.
