Hashimoto Kansetsu (1884-1954), born in Kobe in Japan, was the leader of the "Kanto School". Deeply influenced by his family, he admired Chinese art and culture. He visited China for dozens of times and enjoyed profound friendship with painters and calligraphers including Qian Shoutie, Wang Yiting, Wu Changshuo, and so on. In this painting, he depicted the buddha with simple and expressive strokes, exuding a brisk style and exhibiting influence from Shanghai School painters like Wang Yiting.
