This pagoda tier was excavated in the East Gansu Province (aka. Longdong), where Chinese Buddhist sculpture illustrated the interchange between China and other Buddhist centers. A mixture of both Chinese and Western elements, the tier is carved at the bottom with animals from the Western Regions — lions, donkeys and camels.
