The English poet John Donne called elephants "Nature's great masterpiece". Elephants are perhaps one of the kindest of animals. They also have exceptional wisdom, a tremendous memory, and boundless capacity for love. They demonstrate joy, patience, unity and humor, and remind us to do the same.
Carved from a block of titanium, an elephant invites with a clever eye and beckoning trunk. It has stories to tell, memories to convey, and perhaps wisdom to impart. It stands on a foundation of gems as precious as knowledge. Rubellite is one of the rarest gems in the tourmaline family, a fitting symbol of the value of what we can learn from elephants. Tanzanite comes from only one place in the world, and its blue and violet hues transform as the light and angle change. The unique Wallace Chan Porcelain, which forms the elephant tusks, adds a further dimension of inherent strength, in contrast to the glasslike qualities of obsidian and the translucence of aquamarine. The variety and harmony of the various stones add a sense of playfulness and lightness to this remarkable artwork.
