"Kunlun" in Tang China broadly referred to black people from Southeast Asia and East Africa. Many of these individuals came to Tang China as servants. Easily identified in pottery figurines, Kunlun servants are depicted with curly hair, bare feet, and upper bodies draped in sashes.
