Jian tea bowls, brought to Japan by Zen monks, became treasured objects within the unique world of Japanese tea ceremonies. In 1406, Emperor Yongle even bestowed ten Jian bowls upon the Ashikaga shogunate. Records of the shogunate's collection, meticulously documenting their value, reveal the immense esteem in which these bowls were held. A single Jian bowl could fetch 3,000 to 10,000 pi (a unit of cloth measurement and currency), solidifying their status as treasures in their era.
