Dai Xi (1801-1860), a native of Qiantang (present-day Hangzhou, Zhejiang province), is also known for his zi (designated name) Chunshi and his hao (literary names) Yu'an, Chunxi, and Jingdong Jushi. He enjoyed equal popularity with Tang Yifen. The artist rendered landscape in Wang Hui's style and was also adept in painting a variety of subjects including plants and figures. This painting displays a gentle style with composed layers of mountains. He did this work at the age of 59, the fifth year (1859) of Xianfeng Reign.
