Description

Ren Xiong (1823-1857), also known by his zi (designated name) Weichang and his hao (literary name) Xiangpu, was a native of Xiaoshan (nowadays Hangzhou, Zhejiang province). He later moved to Suzhou and Shanghai. He was adept in painting figures, landscape, birds, and flowers. He was one of the "Four Rens", whose other three members were his brothers, Ren Xun and Ren Yi, and his son Ren Yu. This painting depicts the goddess of the Luo River after the style of Chen Hongshou with an archaic and eccentric fashion.
