Gao Jianfu (1879-1951), named Lun, was known by his zi (designated name) Jianfu. Native to Panyu (present day Guanzhou, Guangdong province), he was adept in painting landscape, flower and bird, and figure. He was a pioneer and representative painter of the Lingnan School. This painting combines the xieyi (freehand) technique and Western painting techniques and presents a unique style. The painter accomplished this painting in 1907 at the age of 29.
