Jin Nong (1687-1763) is also known by his zi (designated name) Shoumen and hao (literary name) Dongxin Xiansheng. He was a native of Renhe (nowadays Hangzhou), Zhejiang province, but later moved to Yangzhou. Adept in painting, calligraphy, and seal carving, Jin Nong had a big collection of art and was particularly interested in ancient steles and inscription rubbings. He was one of the "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou". This calligraphy was written with round and clear brushstrokes, exuding a dynamic style, similar to that of writings on ancient bamboo and wood slips.
