Zhang Yihu, also known by his zi (designated name) Youhong or Renzhai, was native to Huating (nowadays Jinshan in Shanghai). A jinshi (a successful candidate of imperial civil-examination) in the 15th year (1658) of the Shunzhi reign, he was entitled as a judge in Yunnan and became a praised official. On his way back home after the government dismissed his position in 1662, he painted this painting for Wang Shizhen who became a jinshi in the same year as Zhang. Some of his landscape paintings show the style of the Songjiang School, some are in the Zhe School style.
