Description

Yu Shinan (558-638), also known by his zi (designated name) Boshi, was native to Yuyao, Zhejiang province. He served as the assistant director of Archive and Library in the court and was conferred the rank "Duke of Yongxing county". A student of Zhiyong and adept in calligraphy, Yu was praised as one of the "Four Masters of Early Tang". This is the epigraph for the third daughter of Emperor Taizong of Tang. The brushstrokes are light and loose. He wrote the epigraph in the tenth year (636) of the Zhenguan era at the age of 79. There is also a speculation that this was a copy made by Mi Fu.
