Lu Yun (262-303), zi (designated name) Shilong, was a native of Wu commandery residing in Huating (in present-day Songjiang, Shanghai). He was the son of Lu Kang, a renowned Eastern Wu general during the Three Kingdoms period. Erudite and knowledgeable, he and his brother Lu Ji were the celebrated as the "Two Lus". Shanghai was once referred to as "Yunjian", which originates from Lu Yun styling himself as "Lu Shilong of Yunjian". This calligraphic work appears in the Chunhua Ge Tie (A calligraphic model-book from the imperial archives in the Chunhua era). The original calligraphy may be a copy from the Southern Tang in the Five Dynasties (907-960).
